Michelangelo Merisi da CARAVAGGIO (1573 - 1610): Also known as the Deposizione. In 1602 Caravaggio was commissioned for this devotional piece by the Church of Santa Maria in Vallicellan (Rome). Note his characteristic employment of realistic-emotive figures & the juxtaposition of dramatic light & shade
