It was constructed and restored over several periods but its basic shape was retained: building began 1702-06; suspended during the Russo-Swedish War; resumed 1722-36; damaged in the Moscow fire in 1737; restored 1786-96; north-eastern side blown up by NapoleonÃs Army in 1812; restored 1814-28.
