ETHIOPIAN Anonymous: The pose of Mary and Christ derive from a Jesuit copy of an Italian engraving of a Santa Maria Maggiore icon. The placement of Michael and Gabriel and the juxtaposition of imagery of Mary and St. George slaying the dragon are traditional Ethiopian imagery.
