Thomas EAKINS (1844-1916): The painting is a copy of the original portrait of Dr. John H. Brinton by Thomas Eakins (1876) owned by the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Washington D.C. The copy was authorized 13 September 1961 by the National Gallery of Art in exchange for a long-term loan of the original to the National Gallery.
