ETRUSCAN Anonymous: This acroterion was discovered in the sanctuary of Cannicella in Orvieto. This sanctuary was dedicated to Vei a divinity of death and fertility. The scene portrayed in the acroterion has been identified with the sacrifice of Polyxena by Neoptolemos on the tomb of Achilles and the slaughter of Klytaimnestra by Orestes. Both themes are commonly represented in sacrificial burial sites.
