ETRUSCAN Anonymous: This arch is the only surviving portion of the Porta Marzia- a gateway into the city of Perugia. The arch is flanked and surmounted by three heads that probably represent tutelary dieties. Above the arch three male figures are flanked by the head of a horse on either side and each figure is supported by pilasters. The male figures have been identified with the Etruscan dieties Tinia and the Dioscuri. Two Roman inscriptions are carved above and below the loggia and refer to Perugia as Augusta Perugia and Colonia Vibia after the emperor Gaius Vibius Trebonianus Gallus (A.D. 251-253).
