ETHIOPIAN AXUMITE Anonymous (c. 100 BCE - c. 700): The pillar probably marks an ancient sacred site for it is surrounded by a stonewall and an altar has been place next to it. Nuns from the church of Mary of Zion (Tsion Maryum) circled around it praying.
