ETHIOPIAN ZAGWE DYNASTY Anonymous: Bet Medhane Alem is the largest monolithic rock-hewn church in the world. It is thought that the church was intended as a copy of the Tsion Maryam church in Axum. The church is being protected from the rains by the metal roof and framework.
