BYZANTINE PROVINCIAL Anonymous (c. 330-1453): The original mosaic floor was made up of 10 rows of 5 square panels set into a grid pattern. The Pharos (lighthouse) of Alexandria, was built in the 3rd century BCE. The statue at the top may have been Ptolemy I wearing a crown, or Helios (Sol) the sun god. The neighboring mosaic panel showed sailors in a boat looking at the Pharos.
