BYZANTINE PROVINCIAL Anonymous (c. 330-1453): The original mosaic floor was made up of 10 rows of 5 square panels set into a grid pattern with a frame of looped-circles. The basilica was erected during an urban expansion campaign under the Emperor Justinian. This Polis Nea Theodorias (New City of Theodora) panel may indicate that the city was renamed at this time after the Empress Theodora.
