Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Racial Segregation

KPIX Eyewitness News report from February 27th 1967 in San Francisco, featuring scenes from a sermon by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Macedonia Baptist Church in San Francisco on modern society, scientific advancement and racial segregation in America. The Rev. Dr. King points out that: "Modern man suffers from a kind of poverty of the spirit, which stands in glaring contrast to his scientific and technological abundance. We've learned to fly the air like birds, we've learned to swim the seas like fish. And yet we haven't learned to walk the earth like brothers and sisters." He goes onto conclude: "No longer must we be ashamed of being black! Black is beautiful! And we must know that somehow God made all of us and one day America must understand that integration is not a problem, it is a privilege and an opportunity to participate in the beauty of diversity!" Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
