White Panthers meet police
About This Item
KPIX Eyewitness news report from June 16th, 1976 on a workshop with the White Panthers (a left-wing organization that was begun at Huey P. Newton's suggestion) and the San Francisco Police Department. The clip features a White Panthers spokesman addressing members of the San Francisco Police Department, including Chief of Police Charles Gain. He discusses the widely held sentiment that, "all the residents of certain neighborhoods in San Francisco are potential criminals," arguing that this assumption should have stopped with the change in city administration. Also contains a shot of leaflets being passed out to the SFPD representatives. Remastered, edited and catalogued for the web by Shira Peltzman.
