    <p begin="00:03:49.06" dur="00:00:03.56">The institute, just a brief<br/>word about it, for those of you</p>
    <p begin="00:03:52.62" dur="00:00:04.23">that don&apos;t know anything,<br/>it was established in 1996</p>
    <p begin="00:03:56.85" dur="00:00:03.24">by Paul Longmore and its<br/>mission was basically</p>
    <p begin="00:04:00.09" dur="00:00:04.29">to promote San Francisco State<br/>University Social Justice</p>

    <p begin="00:04:33.03" dur="00:00:05.37">Our aim now, under my<br/>directorship, I&apos;m trying to kind</p>
    <p begin="00:04:38.40" dur="00:00:02.82">of to get in some new<br/>directions and we really want</p>
    <p begin="00:04:41.22" dur="00:00:03.19">to showcase disability<br/>as a creative force,</p>
    <p begin="00:04:44.41" dur="00:00:03.77">a generative force for<br/>everyone and the ideas</p>
    <p begin="00:04:48.18" dur="00:00:03.72">to introduce conversations<br/>among unlikely groups</p>
    <p begin="00:04:51.90" dur="00:00:03.88">and in surprising contexts.</p>
    <p begin="00:04:55.78" dur="00:00:01.95">And doing this through<br/>a series of projects</p>
    <p begin="00:04:57.73" dur="00:00:03.94">so I&apos;ll just mention a couple<br/>here now and you can go online</p>
    <p begin="00:05:01.67" dur="00:00:03.60">and there&apos;s a literature<br/>about the institute and ways</p>

    <p begin="00:05:25.65" dur="00:00:02.13">The second event that&apos;s kind</p>
    <p begin="00:05:27.78" dur="00:00:04.21">of captivating us right now<br/>is we&apos;ve just recently taken</p>
    <p begin="00:05:31.99" dur="00:00:04.34">over the Disability Film<br/>Festival known as Superfest,</p>
    <p begin="00:05:36.33" dur="00:00:02.27">the longest-running world--</p>
    <p begin="00:05:38.60" dur="00:00:02.69">world&apos;s disability<br/>film festival.</p>
    <p begin="00:05:41.29" dur="00:00:02.89">We&apos;re co-hosting it with<br/>the San Francisco Lighthouse</p>
    <p begin="00:05:44.18" dur="00:00:01.68">for the Blind and<br/>it&apos;s going to bring</p>
    <p begin="00:05:45.86" dur="00:00:02.71">up all these really<br/>great conversations</p>
    <p begin="00:05:48.57" dur="00:00:01.57">and meetings about cinema.</p>
    <p begin="00:05:50.14" dur="00:00:01.90">So, we&apos;re very excited<br/>about that.</p>
    <p begin="00:05:52.04" dur="00:00:01.50">There&apos;ll be a big<br/>event in October</p>
    <p begin="00:05:53.54" dur="00:00:03.50">and we will get publicity<br/>out about that very soon.</p>
    <p begin="00:05:57.04" dur="00:00:02.65">And third event is<br/>an academic event.</p>
    <p begin="00:05:59.69" dur="00:00:04.31">It&apos;s a conference, the history<br/>of eugenics and disability</p>

    <p begin="00:06:07.32" dur="00:00:01.94">for details about that.</p>
    <p begin="00:06:09.26" dur="00:00:03.72">Again, you can learn more<br/>about that and support us</p>
    <p begin="00:06:12.98" dur="00:00:03.41">and friend us and<br/>tweet us and, you know,</p>

    <p begin="00:06:20.52" dur="00:00:06.58">Now, today&apos;s panel is another<br/>way to honor our beloved friend.</p>
    <p begin="00:06:27.10" dur="00:00:03.14">Before turning to our<br/>panelists, I want to update you</p>
    <p begin="00:06:30.24" dur="00:00:03.22">on a few things related<br/>to Paul&apos;s legacy to those</p>
    <p begin="00:06:33.46" dur="00:00:03.03">that know him and know<br/>[inaudible] about.</p>
    <p begin="00:06:36.49" dur="00:00:02.39">On Tuesday, just<br/>a couple days ago,</p>
    <p begin="00:06:38.88" dur="00:00:02.39">I hired a professionally<br/>trained archivist</p>

    <p begin="00:07:17.70" dur="00:00:02.35">It&apos;s been reviewed at<br/>a university press.</p>
    <p begin="00:07:20.05" dur="00:00:03.64">We should be getting some<br/>news in the next few months.</p>
    <p begin="00:07:23.69" dur="00:00:04.76">Academic presses don&apos;t<br/>rush, rush, rush, so.</p>
