    <p begin="00:38:55.77" dur="00:00:01.33">to the island &apos;cause<br/>the other guys kind</p>
    <p begin="00:38:57.10" dur="00:00:02.55">of like swept out of the tide.</p>
    <p begin="00:38:59.65" dur="00:00:02.32">So, it is-- it is.</p>
    <p begin="00:39:01.97" dur="00:00:01.52">&gt;&gt; Louder.</p>
    <p begin="00:39:03.49" dur="00:00:04.31">&gt;&gt; But Joe Bill claimed the<br/>island for the Native Americans.</p>
    <p begin="00:39:07.80" dur="00:00:03.61">And ever since then, it&apos;s<br/>been an ongoing struggle.</p>
    <p begin="00:39:11.41" dur="00:00:01.73">We never thought<br/>we would stay here.</p>
    <p begin="00:39:13.14" dur="00:00:02.93">We&apos;ve kind of figure the federal<br/>government would come and pull</p>
    <p begin="00:39:16.07" dur="00:00:03.32">as out of the island really<br/>quick because, you know,</p>
    <p begin="00:39:19.39" dur="00:00:02.36">in the 1960s, a lot of<br/>that stuff that was going</p>

    <p begin="00:39:37.68" dur="00:00:02.24">and they gave us a little<br/>bit of breathing room.</p>
    <p begin="00:39:39.92" dur="00:00:06.74">But on the whole, I think<br/>that I&apos;m glad that I was able</p>
    <p begin="00:39:46.66" dur="00:00:03.69">to participate and I&apos;m glad to<br/>also have-- you know, I&apos;ve got--</p>
<p begin="00:39:50.35" dur="00:00:03.86">I got to be in an old jail<br/>with some really good friends.</p>
    <p begin="00:39:55.37" dur="00:00:01.84">I went to jail with<br/>Mickey and I went to jail</p>
    <p begin="00:39:57.21" dur="00:00:01.62">with Richard two times.</p>
    <p begin="00:39:58.83" dur="00:00:03.26">So, it was a great<br/>learning experience.</p>
    <p begin="00:40:02.09" dur="00:00:03.84">And I think to see<br/>all you people here</p>
    <p begin="00:40:05.93" dur="00:00:03.20">and especially all the<br/>young people, it is so great</p>
    <p begin="00:40:09.13" dur="00:00:01.68">because we are still here</p>

    <p begin="00:40:15.01" dur="00:00:01.97">And right now, I&apos;ve been--</p>
    <p begin="00:40:16.98" dur="00:00:02.45">lately, I was having a<br/>conversation with some--</p>
    <p begin="00:40:19.43" dur="00:00:02.95">another close friend this<br/>morning and she was telling me</p>
    <p begin="00:40:22.38" dur="00:00:02.02">that a lot of the Indians<br/>are losing their languages,</p>
    <p begin="00:40:24.40" dur="00:00:01.69">you know.</p>
    <p begin="00:40:26.09" dur="00:00:03.59">So, I would think that<br/>if we start trying</p>
    <p begin="00:40:29.68" dur="00:00:04.02">to preserve those languages<br/>and trying to go back to it,</p>
    <p begin="00:40:33.70" dur="00:00:02.17">I think she told me something</p>
    <p begin="00:40:35.87" dur="00:00:02.65">like it would take a hundred<br/>years or 20 years for some</p>
    <p begin="00:40:38.52" dur="00:00:01.66">of those language to be revived.</p>
    <p begin="00:40:40.18" dur="00:00:01.89">So, you guys really<br/>got a lot of work</p>
    <p begin="00:40:42.07" dur="00:00:01.19">with you &apos;cause there&apos;s<br/>a lot of people--</p>
    <p begin="00:40:43.26" dur="00:00:03.68">there&apos;s a lot of Native American<br/>languages that have been lost.</p>
    <p begin="00:40:46.94" dur="00:00:04.94">And I think that the oral<br/>tradition has always been our</p>
    <p begin="00:40:51.88" dur="00:00:03.12">strongest suit because most--</p>
    <p begin="00:40:55.00" dur="00:00:01.51">you know, I don&apos;t know<br/>about a lot of people.</p>
    <p begin="00:40:56.51" dur="00:00:02.87">Most of-- my people from--<br/>I&apos;m from [inaudible],</p>
    <p begin="00:40:59.38" dur="00:00:03.31">it&apos;s all oral tradition.</p>
    <p begin="00:41:02.69" dur="00:00:02.07">There&apos;s hardly everything--<br/>nothing was written down.</p>
    <p begin="00:41:04.76" dur="00:00:01.65">Whatever was written<br/>down managed</p>
    <p begin="00:41:06.41" dur="00:00:01.67">to get destroyed or burned up.</p>
<p begin="00:41:08.08" dur="00:00:04.43">So, without our oral traditions,<br/>we are kind of stuck, you know,</p>
    <p begin="00:41:12.51" dur="00:00:02.30">and I&apos;d like to say to the drum.</p>
    <p begin="00:41:14.81" dur="00:00:01.18">Thank you to the drum.</p>
    <p begin="00:41:15.99" dur="00:00:03.01">Thank you to all of the<br/>people that are here</p>
<p begin="00:41:19.00" dur="00:00:03.13">with [inaudible] allow us to<br/>come out here and do this stuff</p>
    <p begin="00:41:22.13" dur="00:00:03.68">because in excess, that idea<br/>that we had when we stop--</p>
    <p begin="00:41:25.81" dur="00:00:01.27">first came out here<br/>in the sense,</p>
<p begin="00:41:27.08" dur="00:00:03.70">we have got that &apos;cause we have<br/>a place that we can come out</p>
    <p begin="00:41:30.78" dur="00:00:01.93">and voice our thoughts.</p>
    <p begin="00:41:32.71" dur="00:00:02.08">You know, maybe it&apos;s<br/>only twice a year.</p>
    <p begin="00:41:34.79" dur="00:00:02.35">But I get over-- I get over<br/>here, I get to come over once</p>
    <p begin="00:41:37.14" dur="00:00:02.32">in a while and I like<br/>to just talk to people</p>
    <p begin="00:41:39.46" dur="00:00:01.44">and educate people &apos;cause a lot</p>
    <p begin="00:41:40.90" dur="00:00:02.07">of people don&apos;t really<br/>understand that there&apos;s no--</p>
    <p begin="00:41:42.97" dur="00:00:02.96">a lot of Indians still left<br/>in this country, you know,</p>
    <p begin="00:41:45.93" dur="00:00:05.26">and I had a map the other<br/>day that was a 1492 map</p>
    <p begin="00:41:51.19" dur="00:00:01.92">that showed the whole<br/>United States was all red.</p>
    <p begin="00:41:53.11" dur="00:00:03.45">You know, and in a short<br/>progression from the years down</p>
    <p begin="00:41:56.56" dur="00:00:03.37">and today, I think<br/>the map ended in 2007.</p>
    <p begin="00:41:59.93" dur="00:00:02.42">Those red dots are probably<br/>limited to maybe about 13</p>
    <p begin="00:42:02.35" dur="00:00:04.54">to 14 places, and the biggest<br/>reservation is in Arizona.</p>
    <p begin="00:42:06.89" dur="00:00:03.01">Every place else has<br/>been-- all the stuff--</p>

    <p begin="00:46:15.11" dur="00:00:03.17">And on reservations--<br/>on many reservations,</p>
    <p begin="00:46:18.28" dur="00:00:04.09">the life expectancy<br/>of men is 33.</p>
    <p begin="00:46:22.37" dur="00:00:03.62">Now, that is half of<br/>the life expectancy</p>
