Youth For Service (1960)

KRON-TV rough-cut footage produced in August 1960 for an Assignment Four program about the Youth For Service organization, which was founded in October 1957 by Carl May and aimed to promote social responsibility in teenagers by providing work on short-term weekend service projects in the community. This footage features: interviews with San Francisco's Executive Director of Youth for Service Orville Luster and Captain William A. Hanrahan, Head of SFPD's Juvenile Bureau; scenes from a debate with local youths about the social stereotype of the teenage "hoodlum"; reports from a Youth for Service meeting about current projects and issues and silent views from a teenage dance event and of youths working on community projects in city and countryside.
