George Earl on Hunters Point Tenants Union

About This Item

KRON-TV News footage from December 20th 1966 featuring an interview with George Earl of the Hunters Point Tenants Union. He describes how the Union had contracted with a vendor using their own money to paint the exterior of a Housing Authority building and explains that the Authority declared this illegal, telling the vendor they were trespassing. Earl expresses anger over the Authority's neglect of their grievances and readiness to interfere with their project. He goes on to advise the Union is filing an injunction against the Authority and also contracting with an exterminator, to further their goal of improving living conditions. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.

Note that KPIX-TV followed up on this story after the KRON report, by which time the Housing Authority had issued eviction notices for some members of the Tenants Union. This footage can be viewed in KPIX 29967.
