Montage: The Honorable Wallace D. Muhammad Interview

A KTVU Montage program from January 20th 1978 featuring an interview with the Honorable Wallace D. Muhammad (1933-2008), by Johnny Barnes Selvin. He was an African American Muslim leader and theologian who disbanded the original Nation of Islam in 1976 and transformed it into an orthodox mainstream Islamic movement called the World Community of Islam in the West, which later became the American Society of Muslims. He discusses: his father the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and their relationship; the nation of Islam's history and development and how the doctrine and policy of the World Community of Islam in the West differs; his background, upbringing and education; the 1977 Hanafi Siege in Washington D.C.; the killing of Malcolm X and Muhammad's plans for the future as the leader of his faith. Barnes is clearly excited to be speaking with Muhammad and at one point exclaims: "Oh, I have so many questions for you!"
