Originally this was the convent for teachers at Most Holy Redeemer Elementary School next door. The sisters were in the order of The Blessed Sisters of Charity. It was converted into an AIDS Hospice around 1986. It was founded by visiting nurses and Hospice of San Francisco, and supported by the California Pacific Medical Center Foundation. In the late 1990s as AIDS deaths diminished due to new medical technologies, they began admitting patients without AIDS who were near death; they have 15 beds. See related slides.
