These blocks are residential with the exception of the Metropolitan Community Church in the middle right. The neighborhood was called Eureka Valley because Eureka Street is a minor valley. It is an easy way to go north or south, avoiding Eureka Heights to the east and Twin Peaks to the left. However, it is a less prominent valley compared to 18th Street, which was a stream bed.
