By 1985 this was the Loading Zone Bar, a gay bar. Around 2008, the Dovre Club moved here from 18th Street. The Dovre Club goes back to the Women's Building on 18th Street between Guerrero Street and Valencia Street. The Women's Building was built in 1910 as a German Turnverein Society. In 1935 the Sons and Daughters of Norway bought the building and renamed it Dovre Hall in honor of the mountains separating Norway and Sweden. They replaced the gym with a dance hall, and a small bar, John & Max's occupied a corner. In 1966, Paddy Nolan took over this bar and named it the Dovre Club. It became a big Irish bar, popular with politicians and folks like Warren Hinckle, the Mitchell Bros., Sheriff Hennessey, and Jack Davis. In 1976, the SF Women's Center bought the building and renamed it the Women's Building. Eviction was fought for one and a half years before the bar moved to 26th Street and Valencia Street.
