New Iranian Consulate Opens At Embarcedero Center

KPIX News report from January 27th 1972 with Belva Davis featuring scenes from an open house at the new Iranian Consulate on the 13th floor of the Embarcadero Center in San Francisco. Includes views of official staff and guests enjoying a party and an interview with the Consul General. The old Iranian Consulate in the Presidio Heights neighborhood was destroyed by a large basement bomb on October 14th 1971 (there were no casualties) and the Consul comments that one message they all want to emphasize is: "Throw flowers, not bombs." Movette Film Transfer of San Francisco remastered this 16mm positive film print in August 2017 in 2K resolution (2048x1556 pixels), using a Lasergraphics film scanner. Very precious video of actually the first terrorist attack on US soil, well before the 1992 World Trade Center attack and the subsequent 9/11 attacks. 

The same Iranian students involved in the most powerful bomb in San Francisco’s history (it damaged 41 homes around the consulate) would later join Khomeini’s terrorist government and ironically many of them would be purged or executed.
