Tongo Eisen-Martin with Marshall Trammell: October 7, 2017

The Poetry Center and The Green Arcade co-present Tongo Eisen-Martin, poetry, with Marshall Trammell, music, at The Green Arcade, San Francisco. Eisen-Martin, with Trammell on drums, in a first-time-ever collaboration, performs poems from Heaven Is All Goodbyes (City Lights Books, 2017), and someone's dead already (Bootstrap Press, 2015). This event is the culminating performance of Eisen-Martin's week as premier Mazza Writer in Residence with the Poetry Center, sponsored by the Sam Mazza Foundation.

After Patrick Marks welcomes the audience, Steve Dickison introduces Tongo Eisen-Martin and Marshall Trammell, reading an excerpt from Amiri Baraka's poem "All Music is Crazy" in honor of the anniversary of Baraka's birthday (Oct 7, 1934--Jan 9, 2014). Eisen-Martin, with Trammell on drums, performs from Someone's Dead Already, and Heaven Is All Goodbyes, working with the following poems: "Movie Star," "Climbing Back Down the Wind," "The Simplicity of Talent," "Skid Bid," "Cut a Hand from a Hand," "Wave at the people Walking Upside Down," "Faceless," "The Course of Meal," "I have to talk to myself differently now," "Four Walls," "Mali," and "Heaven Is All Goodbyes."
