Photographic spread of two organizations established by sociology professor Bertha H. Monroe who established the People's Place teacher training school focused on immigrant education. The Oriental Club was organized in fall of 1931 to represent students of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Filipino backgrounds at San Francisco State Teachers College. Officers for the Oriental Club in fall of 1931 were Manuel Fetora (president), George Sieu (vice president), and Francis Hall (secretary-treasurer) and the officers for spring of 1932 were Alberto Bautista (president), George Sieu (vice president), and Chiyoko Takagi (secretary-treasurer. The International Club was established in fall of 1929 "to create a feeling of cooperation between the students of various races at college and throughout life." The officers for the International Club for fall of 1931 were Christine Huffman (president), Henry Barsotti (vice president), Viviencio Bernardo (secretary) and Richard Hull (librarian), and for spring of 1932 the officers were Richard Hull (president), Viviencio Bernardo (vice president), Chiyoko Takagi (secretary), and Rose Cugionni (librarian). Over the next few years the Oriental Club and the International Club would merge.
