Photograph of San Francisco State College's Panel of Americans (established in fall of 1952 with sponsorship of English professor John Clark) representing religious, racial and ethnic groups, and consisting of an African-American student, a Catholic student, a Protestant student, a Jewish student, and a first or second generation student. The panel's purpose was to ease inter-group tensions by presenting visual and verbal proof that individuals from different backgrounds and live peacefully together. Pictured front row, left to right: Marty McFarland, Mel Bell (president), Paul Kamney, and Jean Ternoir; and back row: Dr. John Clark (faculty advisor), Mrs. Dorothy S. Bauman (executive director), Manuel Perry, and Paul Jess.
