Ron Dellums Wins Democratic Primary

KPIX-TV news report from June 3rd 1970 with Rollin Post featuring an interview with Berkeley City Councilman Ron Dellums, who has just defeated 12 year incumbent Jeffery Cohelan in the Democratic primary for the 7th Congressional seat. Post refers to Dellums as being: "An articulate spokesman for the new politics" and when reflecting on his win, Dellums states: "I think we put together a different kind of coalition. A coalition who perceived themselves as either being not represented or under represented. And I hope that we captured their imagination." Dellums went on to secure a seat in Congres, beating Republican candidate John Healy despite an attack on his "radical" credentials by the Vice President Spiro Agnew and served in Congress for the next 27 years.
