Renaissance Pleasure Faire Traffic Congestion

KPIX-TV news footage from September 28th 1969 featuring a report by Evan White on the traffic congestion caused by motorists trying to visit the Northern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire, at China Camp, in San Rafael. Includes brief views of the faire, shots of a very long line of cars snaking towards the camp grounds and an interview with a spokesperson who explains that with upwards of 10,000 people trying to visit each day along a 2-lane highway, they might need to find another site which can provide better access. It should be noted that the faire eventually relocated from it's China Camp site to Novato's Blackpoint Forest in 1971. As White puts it: "Perhaps there's some special significance that so many people would endure such heat and such a mammoth traffic jam for the simple purpose of trying to escape. And it seems a pity that such simple attempts at escape into the Sixteenth Century can't be accommodated by the Twentieth Century.” Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
