D.S. Marriott and Frank B. Wilderson III: February 16, 2019

The Poetry Center presents D.S. Marriott and Frank B. Wilderson III reading their poetry. Marriott reads from his grime-inspired collection Duppies (Commune Edition, 2018). Wilderson reads and comments on poems from his collection Sideways Between Stories (Commune Editions, 2016). This is the second of two evenings in The Poetry Center's inaugural Black Study Series, supported by an anonymous donor and the National Endowment for the Arts.

He reads "Murking (after Stormzy)," "Back in the Ends (after Kano)," "In Memory of the Rascal," "Der Mandem," "Eskimo (after Wiley)," "The King of Shanks," "Information is Nothing (after Visionist)," and finishes with "Grimaces."

After a brief introduction by Steve Dickison, Frank B. Wilderson III begins his performance with a colorful recollection of D.S. Marriott's literary impact on his life. He then reads "Survivor," "Meant for the Neighbors," "Civil Rights," "Chronicle," "Arrival," "In Here," "The Lucky Ones with Their Shadows (For Tefu and Heinrich)," "Noord Street," "The Complication of Conquest," and finishes with "Law Abiding."
