Relocating the Abner Phelps House (1970)

About This Item

KPIX-TV news footage from April 22nd 1970 with reporter Ron Magers featuring views of the Abner Phelps House at 329 Divisadero Street in San Francisco, which is referred to by Magers as the: "Oldest intact frame residence in the city." Includes an interview with Supervisor Ron Pelosi, who explains that the house has been declared an historical landmark and needs to be moved to a different location, to make way for redevelopment. It should be noted that the Abner Phelps House is currently located at 1111 Oak Street in San Francisco, just around the corner from it's former location at 329 Divisadero Street and this house has been moved a total of 3 times since being built in San Francisco, around 1850 by Abner Phelps and his wife Augusta Roussell. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.

We'd like to thanks Chris Dichtel for positively identifying Supervisor Ron Pelosi in this clip.
