Cardboard House Press: Giancarlo Huapaya, Omar Pimienta, José Antonio Villarán: November 7, 2019

After Steve Dickison and David Buuck, editor of Tripwire, introduce the event and the poets, Giancarlo Huapaya reads from his forthcoming book Gamer and Ryan Greene reads his translation; then the two read simultaneously, also from Gamer, Huapaya the original Spanish poem and Greene his translation. Omar Pimienta reads from Album of Fences/El Album de las Rejas. José Antonio Villarán then reads untitled poems in manuscript from his forthcoming book The Open Pit. Next, the writers engage the audience in a writing experiment, using notecards and keywords (in English and Spanish) to facilitate the interaction of prepared and improvised texts.

The poets respond to questions from the audience about translation, the history of Cardboard House Press and Cartonera Collective, and bilingualism. Huapaya and Greene then read excerpts from Cardboard Minutes/Libro de Cajas, Tripwire Pamphlet #5 (Tripwire Pamphlet Series/Cardboard House Press, 2019). Pimienta reads the title poem, "Me gusta dormir en casa de mis amigos" ("I like to sleep at my friends' houses") from the third section of Album of Fences, and Villarán reads “I Can Feel the Debt,” from his manuscript, The Open Pit, to conclude the event.
