Voting in the 1972 Presidential Election, at Pi Kappa Alpha on Piedmont Ave.

KPIX-TV newsfilm footage from November 7 1972 with reporter Ed Arnow featuring scenes of people voting in the 1972 Presidential Election at a precinct located in UC Berkeley's Pi Kappa Alpha fratenity house, at 2324 Piedmont Avenue in Berkeley. Includes an interview with voting official Larry Orman, who explains that this precinct has 576 registered voters and approximately half of them are aged 18-21. There are views of people voting and Arnow also interviews three young voters, asking how they feel about voting for the first time. In his closing summary, Arnow reflects that: "If this precinct is any indication, the youth vote appears to be like any other vote. From the standpoint of voter interest and turnout, it's hard to tell a 20 year old from a 40 year old." This report was originally titled "Youth Vote" in the KPIX newsfilm shot log and it's worth noting that in 1972 incumbent Richard Nixon won the largest margin of victory in the Electoral College for a Republican in a U.S. presidential election, until 1984.
