Ping Yuen rent strike in Chinatown ends

KPIX-TV news footage from January 11 1979 featuring scenes from the San Francisco Housing Authority which today gave final approval to a rent strike settlement, which was initiated by tenants of the Ping Yuen public housing complex on October 1, 1978 in response to the murder of tenant Julia Wong In August. Tenants were protesting against what they claimed were unsafe building repairs and lax security. Includes views of Mrs Cleo Wallace speaking on behalf of the Housing Authority and also signing papers. Ends with a brief interview, in which a man representing Ping Yuen residents states: "There won't be a complete victory until you really have tenants feeling safe in their homes ... This is the first step in that process." Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
