Registered nurses picket at Kaiser hospital in Richmond

KPIX-TV news footage from May 25, 1966 with reporter Rollin Post featuring silent views of registered nurses picketing for higher wages outside the Kaiser Foundation hospital in Richmond, CA. Includes an interview with spokesperson Beatrice Baumgartner who states they won't be joining the Teamsters for union representation. She goes on to explain: "We love nursing, otherwise we wouldn't be in it but we must be able to pay our bills, we must be able to eat, we must be able to live. And the only way we can do that is by having higher wages." Baumgartner claims that most of the nurses are paid $2.69 per hour which, as the Teamsters pointed out, is less than what garbage collectors make. Post tells us this is the first ever picket line formed by nurses in California. Note there is an article in the May 26, 1966 edition of the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper on p.40, which states these pickets were representing nurses from Richmond, Vallejo and Napa.
