KRON-TV news footage from July 4, 1973 with reporter Kevin McCullough featuring the recently completed Sutro Tower TV and radio transmitter located in San Francisco between Twin Peaks and Mount Sutro, which started operating today. With views of a telephone operator giving advice on how to obtain the best TV picture, comments from an engineer on why certain areas in the Bay Area have bad reception and interviews with Ch.4 viewers from South San Francisco, who've noticed better - and worse - reception on their television sets. Includes a scene in which one viewer is shown adjusting the rabbit ear attenas on her set. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
This 16mm positive reversal film print was transferred in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in July 2023.
