Ari Banias and Brandon Som: October 8, 2022

The Poetry Center presents Brandon Som, visiting from San Diego, and Ari Banias, Mazza Writer in Residence for Fall 2022, come from Chicago for the weeklong residency at San Francisco State. Som reads from the publisher's proofs of his book Tripas (University of Georgia Press, 2023), which was subsequently awarded the Pulitzer Prize, and one poem from his first book, The Tribute Horse (Nightboat Books, 2014). Banias reads from his two books, Anybody and A Symmetry (both from W.W. Norton, 2016 and 2022 respectively). Steve Dickison introduces the poets, at Medicine for Nightmares bookstore and gallery in San Francisco. The work on the gallery wall is by San Francisco-based Salvadoran muralist Josue Rojas.
