Victor Rowen. 1954. Professor of Physical Education. BS (1950) Long Island University; MA (1951), Ed.D. (1953) Teachers College, Columbia University. Rowen served as head football coach for thirty years during San Francisco State’s “Golden Years of Gator Football.” Rowen was elected Northern California Coach of the Year and Far Western Conference Coach of the Year in 1961 and 1967. Gator Football declined during the national campus turmoil following the 1967 season during 1968-1969 when Rowen’s Squad won no titles. During his tenure, future Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid served as an offensive line coach at San Francisco State under Rowen, highlighting Rowen’s enduring influence on the next generation of football leadership.
