2004 American National Election Study Subset (anes04s.sav) A subset of the 2004 National Election Study pre-election and post-election surveys, produced and distributed by the Center for Political Studies, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. The data and the codebook (on which this document is based) were downloaded from the National Election Studies web site at http://www.umich.edu/~nes/. Interviews were conducted face-to-face. Pre-election interviews were conducted between September 7 and November 1 inclusive. Post-election interviews were conducted between November 3 and December 20 inclusive. The population from which the sample was drawn consisted of voting age United States citizens. From an initial multistage area cluster sample of 1,833 eligible respondents, a total of 1,212 were interviewed in the pre-election survey, yielding a response rate of 66.1%. Of these, 1,066 (88%) were re-interviewed in the post-election survey. This subset includes only those interviewed in both surveys. Variable names have been changed to make them easier to identify. The original variable names are provided in the list that follows. Some variables have been recoded to facilitate analysis. In some cases, a variable included in this subset was derived from two or more variables in the original data file.
