ROMAN LATE ANTIQUE Anonymous (284 - c. 500): In AD 286 Carausius; a commander in the Roman army; proclaimed himself emperor of Britain. In 293 he was murdered and supplanted by his finance minister Allectus. In 296 Constantius; Caesar of the western Roman Empire; conquered Allectus. The base-silver radiate was minted in England.
