LYCIAN Anonymous (c. 500 BCE-200 CE): Frieze slab from the base of the Nereid Monument. Elders approach a figure enthroned and dressed in the manner of a Persian satrap (local ruler). Youths in Greek dress stand behind the throne and the nearest attendant shades the satrap with a parasol. Possibly depicts a scene of surrender.
