ITALIAN RENAISSANCE Anonymous (c. 1400 - 1550): Scene from Virgil's Aeneid. Lavinia the daughter of King Latinus of Italy is promised in marriage to Aeneas; a foreigner. Latinus' wife; Queen Amata; favored her daughter's marriage to Turnus; a local suitor. Aeneas kills Turnus in the war and returns to claim Lavinia as his wife.
