Hans HOLBEIN the younger (c.1497 - 1543): The Italian inscription was taken from Petrarch's Canzoniere (c. 1342) and reads: E cosi desio me mena (And so desire carries me along). The panel belonged to Henry Prince of Wales (1594-1612).
