View of the original Administration Building and the College Library on the Lake Merced Campus at 19th and Holloway Avenue, circa 1953. The original Administration Building was designed by E. Geoffrey Bangs in 1951, and construction was completed in 1953. The College Library was designed by Anson Boyd with the California State Division of Architecture in November 1950 and completed in 1953.

The old San Francisco State College campus at Haight & Buchanan Street operated from the early 20th century through 1952. As enrollment rapidly grew in the 1930s, the campus became overcrowded and a search for a larger location began. Classes officially moved to to the 19th Avenue location in 1953.
