SFSU Commencement – Graduating Students Seated, June 1980

About This Item

Graduating students sit in rows on the athletic field during San Francisco State University’s June 1980 commencement ceremony. Dressed in black academic caps and gowns, they face the stage as the hillside grandstands fill with family and friends. Thornton Hall rises in the background above the tree line, situating the ceremony firmly on the SFSU campus. The image captures both the formal order of the graduating class and the scale of the celebration surrounding them.
