Richard Frewin (right) and library assistant working in Government Publications, which was designated a federal depository library in 1955 by the representative of San Francisco State College's congressional district . Frewin started as a librarian in 1963. He earned his BA in Theater in 1953 at San Francisco State and MLS in 1962 at University of California Berkeley. In 1971, librarians began teaching a credit course called “Library Education 100: Library Research.” Frewin taught this class as an introduction to basic library information resources: identification and location of types of library materials and sources of reference information, development of competence in techniques of literature searching and correct formation for research paper bibliographic references.
