Biological Science Building renamed John S. Hensill Hall.The “Bio Building” was designed by the California Office of Architecture and Construction and built by the F. P. Lathrop Construction Company of Berkeley. It was completed in 1972, and the eight-story building was considered at the time to be one of the finest science structures in the country for undergraduate teaching and research. It had an extensive greenhouse on the roof. On April 5, 1981, the building was named John S. Hensill Hall in the first instance of a person on the Lake Merced campus having a building named after him during his lifetime. Dr. Hensill joined SF State’s faculty in 1947 and served as the School of Natural Sciences from 1969 to 1975.
