Archibald Barron Anderson: Acting President of San Francisco State Teachers College ’25 – ‘27

Archibald Barron Anderson (1876-1927). Acting President of San Francisco State Teachers College 1925-1927. As a student at Santa Rosa High School, became a Frederic Burk protégé before graduating from University of California. He served as the principal at Winters High School in rural Calusa County. He spent two years in the Philippines before returning to Winters High School, and later served as Superintendent of Schools in San Rafael, California. Burk invited Anderson to join the San Francisco State Normal School faculty where he served as a dean. Anderson became Acting President of SF State from Burk’s death to his own, only becoming President for a short period before passing. During 1910s, Anderson served as a vector to carry Burk’s individualized instruction throughout the Pacific Rim in the beginning transition from normal school to teachers’ college and then liberal arts college.
