Cyrus Trobbe. 1946. Assistant Professor of Radio-Television-Film. BA (1945) San Francisco State University; advanced studies John King Roosa. Trobbe was a violinist, who directed the Palace Hotel Orchestra from 1922 to 1930. In 1939, Trobbe was the musical director for KFRC, KPO, and KYA during the 1920s and 1930s, and worked as the music director at San Francisco’s Curran Theatre from 1934 to 1976. Trobbe was 46 years old when he became a SF State student during World War II also holding down two jobs. He graduated in 1945 with a B-plus average. He taught English during an instructor shortage after the war, but then started teaching music history and music appreciation in the Music Department. Trobbe and two friends started what became the Broadcasting Communications Department BCA. Trobbe amassed one of the largest sheet music collections in the United States. Trobbe was forced into retirement in 1968 at the age of 70, but President Paul Romberg called him out of retirement to be an alumni representative for the Student Union Governing Board in 1975. Died on December 28, 1983.
