Paul F. Romberg served as president of San Francisco State University from 1973 to 1983 and was the first administrator to lead two institutions in the California State University system, having previously been founding president of CSU Bakersfield. A botanist and geneticist, he later played a key role in developing the Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies. The Physical Science Building shown here was renamed Thornton Hall in 1981.
