Paul F. Romberg served as president of San Francisco State University from 1973 to 1983 and was the first administrator to lead two institutions in the California State University system, having previously been founding president of CSU Bakersfield. A botanist and geneticist, he played a key role in expanding the university’s science facilities and later helped develop the Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies, dedicated in his name in 1985.
