In the 1980s, Henry Trione's Geyser Peak Winery began pushing a new concept: big boxes of wine. The Sonoma County vintner was offering 4 liter containers of wine under its Summit Cellars brand. The so-called “bag-in-a-box” was simply a plastic bladder inside a cardboard box that had a spout enabling wine to be poured.
Priced at $3.99 for the 4 liter box, Summit Cellars offered a rosé, a Chablis, and what it called a "Rhine wine".
This 1984 Summit Cellars radio commercial was found on an audio tape reel in the Bay Area Radio Museum and Hall of Fame archives and was digitized by volunteer Andrew Welburn.
