Summit Wine Commercial "World's Most Embarrassing Man"

In the 1980s, Henry Trione's Geyser Peak Winery began pushing a new concept: big boxes of wine. The Sonoma County vintner was offering 4 liter containers of wine under its Summit Cellars brand. The so-called  “bag-in-a-box” was simply a plastic bladder inside a cardboard box that had a spout enabling wine to be poured.

Priced at $3.99 for the 4 liter box, Summit Cellars offered a rosé, a Chablis, and what it called a "Rhine wine".

This commercial was produced by Walt Kraemer Creative Services. Walt Kraemer was an Oakland native whose lengthy career in radio and advertising included time as producer of McElhatton in the Morning, the KCBS broadcast featuring Dave McElhatton. Kraemer, whose broadcast commercials included the memorable Southwest Airlines spot with his voice informing passengers "you are now free to move about the country", died in 2020 at the age of 83.
